Second day, February 13th Race : Free descent for women Climatic conditions : Sunny weather and clear sky Temperature , at the start: -8°C; at the finish -9°C Track condition : compacted snow and optimal for the race. Participating skiers : 31 Race start time : 11:00 AM Swiss skiers continue their triumphal march in Kortina, winning two more medals today thanks to the success of Corinne Suter and Lara Gut-Behrami, (gold and bronze) Today was the day of Suter shone with the gold medal he won in the "Downhill" – free descent race, just as he did on Thursday in the "Super G" with the silver one around his neck. Gut-Behrami went down late after six runners and looked poised to claim her second gold medal, but something went wrong at the end of her run and she lost time finishing (0.37 seconds behind Suter), in the third. The separation of the two Swiss speed stars was a surprise made by Germany's Kira Weidl, only 0.20 seconds away from the winning pace. However, it was the first World Championship medal for Weidl, who to date has only been on the podium twice in her young World Cup career, the two third places coming in 2019. After the difficult weather days at the beginning of the week, today Kortina provided a dream day for the women's free downhill race. Cloudless blue skies and chilly sub-zero temperatures greeted the venue as one of the world's most scenic tracks, where female cross-country skiers had a chance to really shine for today's World Championship speed competition. Thanks to the exploits of Gut-Behrami and Suter, Switzerland holds a lead in the total number of medals with four in total. Here are some photos from the speed race:
