The content of the film
In a village in the north of Albania, agrarian reform returns the land to Loke and her family, which had been acquired by intrigues from Tuç Maku, a large landowner in that area. The conflict between the two families begins. Tuç Maku takes revenge by killing Murrashi, the son of Loke, who was one of the applicants of the agrarian reform. After this tragedy, Lokja returns to her children, Leka and Filja.
“The musical forms oscillate between the old age of the feudal order and the anxiety of the drums of war and innovation, accompanied by tones of lyrical optimism. The new society has broken the boundaries, walls and norms of traditional tribal individualism; has opened the new land for him to work, but the highlander remains more lonely than before, with a new tragic constraint, with the farce of being happy. The meaning of sadness, which we refer to in this analysis, belongs to the artistic, poetic order, the flutter of rapid normative change, but not at all to the political one. There always comes a time when the old and the return to it is unacceptable in all dimensions, but this does not prevent a person from lamenting or fainting for what is no longer and probably will not return. Besides, beyond the emotional sadness of the mountaineer, there is another sadness, even a dialectic of sadness.”
