Ferdinand Hysi

Hysi is born on June 16, 1952, in the city of Berat in an intellectual family originally from Skrapari. His father was an agronomist, while his mother was an Italian language teacher from Tirana.

Ferdinand moved to the city of Vlora as a result of his father’s assignment, where he stayed until 1997. Hysi graduated from the “Ali Demi” High School in the city of Vlora, and then continued his higher education at the University of Tirana, where completed his studies in Radio-Electronic Engineering in 1976.

Returned to Vlora where and started working as an engineer at Vlora Telecom and a teacher at the oil high school. From the age of 14, he started writing as a passion. While his career as a dramatist started at the age of 26 (1978) with the play “Rruga Budi 723” (Dramatization of the novel with the same title by Ruzhdi Pulaha) for the Vlora “Petro Marko” Theater where he worked for 4 years as a librettist.

After 1997, Ferdinandi emigrated with his family to Italy, where he stayed and worked for several years, however he continued to write various dramaturgical works for the Albanian theater.

Since 2009, he returned to Tirana where started working for the Ministry of Culture and the National Historical Museum.

He is currently retired and continues to collaborate with theater associations and the National Theatre.

“Mysterious Night” (2017), drama from Theater “A. Moisiu” Durrës. “Vdiq Breti, Long Live the King” (2018), comedy from the National Theater “Three Minds in Auction” (2018), is being re-staged in the Croatian language in Zagreb, Croatia by the “Mergimtari” Theater Association. “The Golden Shovel” (2019), a monodrama by the “Mergimtari” Theater Association of Croatia, staged at the “Petro Marko” Theater in Vlorë, “Aleksandër Moisiu” Durres, “Bylis” Fier, ArTurbina Tirana, National Theater of Albania, and finally and in Zagreb, Croatia.

Writings in the genre of humor :
He has written a lot in the genre of humor where for years he has been the author of many pieces successfully performed by Parodists of Vlora. In this context, he also wrote complete parts for the Corporal of Estrada Vlorë, such as: “We and her”, staged in 1998, “Pregnant again” staged in 2005, “Visitors from space” in 2006.

Various Awards and Evaluations
“Circus Master”, second prize, in 1993, in the literary competition organized by the Ministry of Culture of Albania.
“Three minds at auction”, the first prize “Aleksandër Moisiu”, in 1994, for the best drama of the National Festival of the National Theater of Albania, second prize, in 1995, from the Committee for the Balkans based in France, in the period 2014-2015, the “Pena e Artë” award in Podujevë, Kosovo, the award for the best drama in Preševo and the award for the winning drama at the “Flaka e Gjilanit” Albanian Drama Festival, in Gjilan.

“Kali e Karrocë”, second prize, in 2004, from the Ministry of Culture of Albania.

“Spirti i Ujkut”, the first award “Aleksandër Moisiu”, in 2005, for the best drama of the National Festival of Tirana Theatre.

“Dog life ie VIP”, Third prize, in 2007, Ministry of Culture of Albania.

“Mystery of the Bermuda Triangle”, Second prize, in 2012, in the competition “Katarina Josipi” organized by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports of Kosovo and the National Theater of Kosovo.
