Petrit Ruka (1954-2021)
Editor, screenwriter and director!
Born on August 21, 1954. Completed his higher studies in language and literature. In 1986, he started working as an editor in Kinostudio “Shqiperia e Re”.
The inclination and passion pushed him to write several scripts himself, the quality of which constantly increased. Within 7 years, he wrote 6 feature film scripts autonomously or as a co-author.
The first script was for the film “Eja / Come” – 1987, which deals with a topic untouched by Albanian films.
In 1988, Ruka wrote the script for the short film “A third one / Nje i trete”, which attracted the attention of filmmakers and critics. His most successful screenplay remains that of the film “A Boy and a Girl / Nje djale dhe nje vajze” – 1990, co-authored with Vreto, Muco e Mitro.
In 1994-95, he co-wrote and directed the films “One Hundred Per Cent / Nje qind per qind” and “Plastic Bullet / Plumbi prej plasteline” with Artan Minarolli.
The latter was awarded the President’s Award of the International Film Festival that took place in the Czech Republic in 1997.
Ruka also wrote the script for the other film “Continue with Beethoven / Vahzdojme me Bethovenin” – 1995, which was evaluated at the 10th Albanian Film Festival that took place on May 10-13, 1995.
He has also produced the documentary films “Butrinti i gjalle” as a screenwriter and director (on the actor Kadri Roshi) – 1998 and “In the beginning was Adam / Ne fillim ishte Adami” – 1999.
Ruka is also the author of several scripts for cartoons, among which: “The Living and the Dead / I gjalli dhe i vdekuri”, which was awarded the Cup of the Festival of 10 for the script.
Other feature films: “Inexhaustible River / Lumi qe nuk shteron” – 1989; “The prisoners of the gallery / te Burgosrit e galerise” – 1994,
“I am Ismail Qemali / Une jam Ismail Qemali” – 1997; “Escape / Arratia” – 2001, as well as co-author in the script of the cartoon “Ekuiliber”.
In December 2002, Ruka was appointed Chairman of the National Center of Cinematography.
He was awarded the title “Great Master” . Passed away on July 6, 2021
