Thoma Gaqi
Composer. “Merited Artist”.
Born in Korce on August 21, 1948. Studied at the High Institute of Arts in the music department in 1972. Gaqi is a representative of the new generation of Albanian composers. He was a talented student of the composition class led by Prof. Cesk Zadeja.
Gaqi has a diverse creativity with instrumental, symphonic, vocal and vocal works – symphonic, orchestral, chamber music, stage music and film music. Traditional Albanian music also occupies an important place in this creativity.
In addition to artistic creativity, Thoma Gaqi has a special contribution in the field of pedagogy as the head of the harmony course for many years and in the formation of composers of the following generations.
Throughout his professional life, Thoma Gaqi has also been Artistic Director at the Opera and Ballet Theatre.
In addition to other musical activities, he composed the music for the film “The Coping / Perballimi”
