Bashkim Asllani
Operator and photographer of Kinostudio “Shqiperia e re”
Born in Tirana on April 26, 1944. Graduated from “Sami Frasheri” secondary school and attended the Higher Institute for Languages and Literature for four years. He worked for a year as a correctional officer in the newspaper “Zeri i Populli” and in 1968 he was appointed to the Kinostudio “Shqiperia e Re”.
In 1972-1973 Asllani completed a theoretical course for assistant operator. From 1972 to 1980 works as an assistant operator in about 15 feature films.
He starts the first filming as a cinematographer in newsreels and documentary films. From 1973, Asllani shoots the first documentary film as an independent cameraman “Fierze `73”.
He made a total of about 20 documentary films as a cameraman. Among his most successful films are “Light in the tunnel” (1976); “The Nightingale of Labyrinth” (1977); “Treasures under the pine” (1977); “The Militant Writer” (1997); “Why so” (1997); “The Disappeared” (1997) which won an award for archival films in the USA;
At the same time, he is involved in filming the subjects of newsreels and chronicle films as an author or co-author. In 1980, he shot the first feature films: “Brother and Friends”; “After death”;
Later continuing with 14 other films, among which are: “Autumn’s reproaches” (1981), a film that won second prize at the Albanian Film Festival; “A name among men” (1983); “Mother’s Heart” (1993) as co-author, winner of the first prize at the 10th Albanian Film Festival, etc.
It has been evaluated as one of the best operators on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Albanian cinematography. As a photographer, he opened a photo exhibition himself in 1997, b/w photos from the main events of `97, as well as an album of photos for the National Center of Photography.
Was represented with the artistic photograph “Djepi / The Cradle” in the International Photographic Exhibition “Marubi 2000”.
