Zef Çoba, “Great Master”
Composer, teacher in the subjects of choral conducting, choral class, chamber music, harmony. Hold the academic title “Professor”!
Born in Shkoder on July 17, 1951. Since childhood, he has manifested his passion for music. Finished his studies at the Academy of Arts in Tirana, in 1974, in the branch of choral conducting, under the direction of teacher Rozmari Jorganxhi.
After finishing school, he worked in the city of Peshkopia and then in Shkodër as the head of music, near the Cultural Centers of these cities. He studied the rich folklore heritage, mainly of the territories where he worked, as well as self-taught studies in the field of composition.
In 1989, by decision of the “Union of Writers and Artists” of Albania, he became a freelance composer. In 1991, he started working at Radio – Shkodra, as a journalist of music shows and programs, as well as editor-in-chief.
Since 2003, he has been working at the Tirana University of Arts in the Faculty of Music, teaching in the subjects of choral conducting, choral class, chamber music, harmony, etc.
In the years 1997 to 2001, he made his contribution as conductor of the “Dom Mikel Koliqi” choir of the Cathedral Church in Shkodër.
In 2004, he directed the choir of the “St. Paul” Cathedral Church in Tirana. Since 2010, he has been the leader of the Choir of Saint Francis Church in “Giuhadol”, in Shkodër.
Since 1983, he is the secretary of music for the Branch of the League of Writers and Artists in Shkodër. He has composed various vocal and instrumental pieces, music for 16 feature films, theater music, songs in the style of the Shkodra civic song tradition, for children, etc. many of which have gained absolute popularity.
He composed a cycle of vocal romances entitled “Song of Man”; the cycle of choral songs for children “Right and wrong”, many arrangements of popular songs for choir, for soloists and choir, etc.
He is the author of the song “Djali kumbares” with lyrics by Fadil Kraje and the composer of the well-known song “Xhamadani vija vija”, which he composed in 1993.
In addition to other musical activities, he has also composed the music for several Kinostudio Albanian films: “Radio station (1979) / “Sketerre `43” (1980), a film that was awarded the First Prize for its music; “Red Faith” (1982); “The end of a blood feud” (1983); “Postponed Wedding” (1985); “the Stone of Faith” (1986); “When the doors of life open” (1986); “Weight of Time” (1988); “Shpresa” (1988); “The Living Wall” (1989), a film that was awarded a special prize for its music; “Pirate’s Cave” (1989); “A day in a life” .
