Gjergj Sulioti was born on August 29, 1950, in the city of Korçë, into a family with musical traditions. His father, Piro Sulioti, was a lyrical singer and soloist in the operetta Agimi by Kristo Kono, while his mother was an amateur actress at the “A. Z. Çajupi” Theater.

He completed his secondary education at “Raqi Qirinxhi” High School in Korçë. In 1966, he took part in the Song Festival of Radio Korça and won the first prize, surpassing even his father, who was awarded the second prize.

In 1973, Suljoti began his studies in the singing department at the Academy of Arts, and in 1978 he was appointed soloist at the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet of Albania (TKOB). Initially, as a student, he debuted at the 14th Song Festival of RTSH with the performance of the songs “Rini, flamur i zjarrte” and “Zëri i nënave”.

At the 15th Festival, he became widely known with the duet “Përherë me këngë” and further strengthened his success with songs such as “Veteranëve” and “Të fortë e kemi Shqipërinë” at the 17th Festival; the latter was awarded the third prize.

He also enjoyed success at the May Concerts and in Radio polls, where he often won prizes for songs such as “Mësuesi i pare”, “Kur të vijmë o shokë nga mali”, “Filiza për të ardhmen”, and others.

At the end of the 1970s, he took part in operettas such as “Celula e kuqe” and “Karnavalet”, where his role as “Loni” in the operetta “Karnavalet e Korçës” remained a favorite of the public.

His operatic repertoire included roles in operas such as: Carmen, Tosca, Rigoletto, Il Trovatore, Aida, Otello, The Barber of Seville, La Traviata, and many others. In Albanian historical operas, he played Trimori in “Goca e Kaçanikut” (1979), Muji in “Vjosa” (1980), and Lekë Dukagjini in “Skënderbeu” (1982).

In 2008, he returned to Korçë and replaced his father as soloist in the choir Lira, becoming the longest-serving soloist in the history of this choir.

He recorded characteristic Korçë serenades such as “Korça qyteti që nuk vdes”, “O Korçë e dashur”, “Vashë ëngjëllore”, “Jorgjica”, as well as his final song “Vdekja e Nositit” (2022), with lyrics by Lasgush Poradeci.
