The content of the film
Northern Albania in 1911. Sadik Aliaj marries his son Bali to Bardha, who actually loves Sokol Dema, whom he promised marriage to but whom the Turks put in prison. On the wedding night Bardha tells Bali her secret. This blunt and unusual confession puts Baliu in a dilemma: either kill the bride as required by the canon or hand her over to Sokol Dema’s parents.
