Sulejman Dibra (1943-2018)
Actor, director, director of the National Theatre, Estrade of Tirana, holds the only title “Naim Frasheri i Arte”.

Born on September 9, 1943, in the city of Shkodra. Dibra completed primary and secondary school in his hometown, in Shkoder, then continued his studies as an actor at the Higher Institute of Arts in Tirana, graduating in 1966.

Immediately after finishing school, he became active in the “Migjeni” Theater in Shkodra. With the professional theater troupe of Shkodra, he has played over 50 roles, alongside actors who have left their mark on the history of Albanian theater and cinematography such as Tinka Kurti, Lec Bushati, Ndrek Prela, Serafin Franko, etc.

In 1969 he will join the staff of the “Teatri Popullor”. His first role will be in the drama “Studenti i sezonit te fundit” by the writer Ibrahim Uruçi and staged by the director Kujtim Spahivogli. In this theater from 1969 to 1979, for 10 years S. Dibra played more than 40 roles where the one that remains the most prominent is the role of “Arturo Ui” (1971) in the drama of the same name, by the German playwright Bertolt Brecht.

Sulejman Dibra has played this role more than 70 times. It is precisely with this role that he managed to show outstanding acting talents, not least an open cynicism accompanied by a lively temperament.

The same form of interpretation is found in the drama “Epoka para gjyqit” by Ekram Kryeziu, as well as in several other roles, which he has interpreted in many of them, but mostly in secondary roles, he has also had protagonist roles, especially in dubbing groups. Other theatrical performances we can mention: “Toka jone”, “Bashke me agimin”, “Perfekti”, “Sinjali i kuq”.

In cinematography, he has been active in about 15 such films, even here in small character sizes unlike in his first film “Komisari i drites”, a completely episodic role of a wounded partisan who takes refuge in the tower of Doda. To continue with “Prita”; “Njesiti guerril”; “Operacioni Zjarri” in the role of Kasketa, etc.

Sulejman Dibra also has a long career as a director of art institutions; Director of the Estrada of Tirana troupe, Director of the Circus (1989), Director of the National Theater (1994).

In 2006, Sulejman Dibra was honored with the Order “Naim Frasheri i Artë” for his merits and artistic contribution.

Passed away after a heart attack on November 19, 2018.
