He became involved with music at a very young age, when he was 8 years old, when he began studying violin. Although he could not immediately win the Higher Institute of Arts due to the “spots” in his biography, he was able to stand out in the Army Ensemble, where he was selected by composer Aleksandër Lalo. It was there that he also caught the eye of composer Çesk Zadeja, who would entrust him with a song at the 11th festival, “A boy came to my village” (Shoqja me e mire).
A song with completely Albanian motifs, but which the young man gave some modern nuances during the interpretation. The song was welcomed by the audience, but during the attack that was made on this festival, he could not escape either.
Immediately after graduating from the Higher Institute, he was appointed to the Palace of Culture of the city of Rrëshen, where he worked for many years.
Although far from the capital and the vibrant artistic life, Dorian Nini continued his work in Rrëshen, becoming one of the most beloved people for the Mirditori. He composed the song for Mic Sokol with verses by Gjok Beci, the song by Kamer Loshi and many others.
In 1982, at the Gjirokastra Folk Festival, the Mirdita took first place. In 1984, he would return to Tirana, where he began to perform with his compositions at the May Decades, at children’s festivals, and finally at the End of Year Festival.
In 1990, he left Albania for Germany, where he lived until his death.
He also passed on his passion for music to his children, his daughter, Enxhi Nini, a violinist known on the Italian stage, and his youngest son Adrian, who is a singer-songwriter.
In recent years, he began to reactivate himself at the RTSH Festival, composing songs for a new generation of singers. But he would go on stage himself for the last time at the 49th edition of the Festival on the Albanian Public Radio and Television. He sang the song “Welcome to Albania!” and his going on stage caused quite a stir, since the first and last time he had sung on the stage of the RTSH Festival had been the 11th, from which he would not leave without being touched. Dorian Nini did not know that this would be his last time in Albania.
On June 17, 2012, composer and singer Dorian Nini passed away at the age of 59. A premature death, due to an incurable disease, which separated him not only from his loved ones, but also from the many projects he left behind. Dorian Nini closed his eyes in a hospital in Germany, where he had lived for years and where, after many difficulties, he was finally able to return to his profession.
