Andon Qesari (1942 – 2021)
Actor / Director / “Merited Artist”.
Born in the village of Qeparo in Vlora on June 27, 1942. An outstanding actor and director, he holds the title of “Great Master” and has also been honored with the title of “Merited Artist”. Over four decades on stage and on screen and as a lecturer at the University of Arts.
Graduated from the “7 Nentori” Polytechnic in Tirana in 1959. Graduated in 1966 as an actor at the “Aleksandër Moisiu” school, he was appointed actor and director at the professional theater “Petro Marko” of Vlora where he plays as an actor and directs the show “House in the Boulevard” by N. Gogol. Then again, in Vlora, he staged the comedy “The Auditor” by N. Gogol.
In the period 1971-1972, he completed the advanced course in directing at the Higher Institute of Arts. In 1972, he became a teacher of acting at the Institute of Arts, and then of directing from 1972 to 2004. In 1975, he resumed his artistic activity as an actor in the National Theater in 1977.
Andon Qesari performed many roles, starting with Besniku and won the first prize at the Theater Festival in 1974 the master was also the role of the Chinese Feni in the drama “Furrnalta (1979) by R. Pulahes, trying in the difficult field of political satire.
Also with this role, he won the first prize at the 1976 Festival, as well as the “Aleksander Moisiu” prize as a director in the play “Under the Stage Lights” (1977), co-director with Pirro Mani.
The role of Vurni in Schiller’s “Luiza Miller” was also an expressive figure. To be mentioned are other shows such as “Doctor Patient” (1978), Aleksi, Qamil Bey “The Era before the trial”, Luigi “Tragedia de Dea”, Zeusi “Prometheus”, Father Kormili “Monserati”, the President “Visit of the old lady “, Xanthi “Aesop”, Commissioner “Opertunescu” “Capulet”, “Romeo and Juliet”, Berlingu “Visit of the inspector”, Count “Fernando Krafi wrote me a letter”, “Gomone”, “Museum” etc.
In the film debuts in v. 1967 to “Triumph over death” to continue later in: “At the beginning of summer”; “Forest of freedom” etc.
As an actor, Andon Cesari has an energetic game, possessing a strong voice. Also successful as a director: “The Rise and Fall of Comrade Zylo” 1983; “Palace 176” (1986), “Under the lights of the scene”, “In life” (1985), “Waltz of the Titanic” (1990), “I want a man” (together with A. Bualot) “8 people plus”; etc.
As a director, he is inclined towards comedy. Together with Alfred Bualot, created A. Balashi’s comedy “Palace 176” in 1986, one of the pearls of Albanian comedies. In 2007, with the drama “The Bells of Dusk” (always together with A. Bualoti) they created the dramatic image of the violent times in the early years after the establishment of communist power in Albania.
Andon Qesari has also written many critical and aesthetic articles about the problems of our Albanian theater, acting, directing, portraits of some actors, dramatized several novels for stage and radio.
In 2013, as part of his 70th anniversary, he prepared the book on the theater simply titled “I, you and the Theatre yesterday, today and tomorrow”. among the few books about theater written by an actor and theater director.
Holds the scientific title “Professor”.
He has also been awarded the title of “Deserved Artist”.
