Artan Minarolli (1958-2015)
Director, screenwriter.

Born in Tirana, on May 13. After graduating from the Higher Institute of Arts, drama department (1982), he was appointed as actor at the Theater of Berati. Minarolli stayed there for 4 years, while in 1986 he started working as an assistant director at the Kinostudio.

Minarolli finished the two-year post-graduate film directing course at the Kinostudio, in 1990, shooting his first movie “Per one centimeter”,  In 1992, he completed a 6-month specialization course at the European Film School.

After that was appointed director of the Central State Film Archive in 2007. His first feature film was “100 %”, with medium length, through which he satirized the electoral farces during the communist regime and the disgusting voting rigging of the people united 100% in favor of the “anonymous” candidates of power.

“The plastic bullet” (1995), co-authored with Petrit Ruka, thanks to a sharp finding enabled the idea of the consequences that come from the abuse of the images of violence, present and aggressive on the screens on television and in everyday life, which deform people’s consciousness, especially children’s, and which lead to tragic consequences. In 2003, he shot the film “Moonless Night”, an Albanian-French co-production, in which he created a dramatic picture of the terrible exodus of Albanians after the overthrow of the dictatorship, laced with a criminal history (the killing of two young men in an attempt to cross the border), closely related to the fate of the main characters parents-daughter-grandfather.

With the parallels removed between times, people, destinies, the director reaches the goals of a syllabic metaphor, where the tragedy of the past is restored to hope for a better life today, while fatality as a closed cycle is overcome by transforming, on the contrary, into grotesque element, irony, denial.

In 2009, he made the film “Prayer for Love” or “Chronicle of a Provincial City” (co-director with screenwriter Ylljet Alikaj).
