Qenan Toro (1931 – 1989)
Actor of the Albanian Theater and Cinematography.

Toro was born in Tirana on December 30, 1931. Worked as a bank financier for several years. His special passion was to become an actor, and so in 1950 he issued his work book as a banker to be admitted to the “Teatri Popullor”.

In 1954 he completed the “Jordan Misja” Artistic Lyceum and that same year he began his activity as an actor in theater . His voice with a special ringing timbre was a gift that nature gave him. Performed in over 80 roles in the theater. At first, he played a series of complementary episodic roles, but then, from 1954, he began to be the protagonist.

This year, Toro plays the first role in the comedy “Girl from the village”, the main role of the party secretary. The year 1956 was special, where he performed 7 roles in one year. Toro records a long career of 35 years where he naturally stands out in many roles such as: Rybakov “Kremlin Clocks”, Leka “Përkolgjinajt”, “Learti “Hamlet”, Prosecutor “Leipzig Trial”, “Cuva e maleve”, “Arturo Ui” and in dozens of other parts until the mid-80s….

Qenan Toro has also been a director, where the drama “Pomegranate Flowers” remains his best play.

While in Cinematography, he performed a few roles: Debatik (1961, Our Land (1964), Shpresa (1988).

In his acting, he stood out especially for his warm bariton voice , for a clear word and pronunciation, for his stature and graceful posture. Due to a disease in the larynx, he was forced to play secondary and episodic roles, inclined as an actor towards positive characters, virtuous people, willing victims, but there were also negative roles such as those with vices and criminalized figures.

His most successful roles are those in the plays: “Otello”; “King Lear”; “On names”; “The Fisherman’s Family”; “Doctor Alexi”; “Three gunshots”; “Student of the last year”; “The second face”; “Events at the factory”: “Year `41”; “Our land”; “Pomegranate flowers” etc.

He also performed in many shows of the time on Radio Tirana, dramatizations or “Artistic speech on the microphone”, thanks to the gift of his voice.

He retired in 1988.

Qenan Toro passed away on December 1, 1989.

It was published on Facebook in Albanian Cinema since December 2013 and was revised in the following years.
