Peçi Dado (1935-1981) Albanian cinematographer and journalist. He was born on March 27, 1935 in the village of Ogren, in the district of Përmet. After finishing the pedagogic school in Tirana, he started working as an editor in the newspaper "Zëri i Rinija" and after a year he was appointed head of the department. During this period of his career in journalism, he published a large number of reports and artistic stories that were evaluated with National awards. In 1960, he began his higher studies in cinema and dramaturgy in Moscow, which, due to the circumstances of the time, after the breakdown of relations with BS, he continued at the University of Tirana at the Faculty of Language and Literature. His Diploma thesis, the first of its kind in the country, will be on film dramaturgy. After graduation, he started working as a screenwriter at the Kinostudio "New Albania" in the screenplay bureau in 1961. Later, he will also be the Director of the Screenplay Department at the Kinostudio. There have been many feature films for which he has written the scripts. Some of these have been awarded the Republic Award. His first film as an editor was "Special Assignment" – 1963, while his first screenplay was the film "Our Land" (1964). Gradually, he became the screenwriter with the greatest, highest and most dignified production, gaining more and more an indisputable authority in artistic circles, for his deep thinking, professional maturity and successful scripts. The most successful scenarios were those of the films: "Encountering Death" – 1967 / "The Trace" – 1970 / "ABC…ZH – 1971. In these scenarios, he was a co-author with the directors, but his hand is felt as a cinematographer. He wrote the first screenplay with his subject for the film "At the beginning of summer" – 1975. This screenplay won the Second Prize in the literary-artistic competition (1974) and the author was also awarded the First Class Republic Prize, while himself the film won the First Prize at the First Albanian Artistic Film Festival – 1976. His most successful script was "The Way of Letters", a television film co-authored by Vladimir Prifti. For the concise style and the spare and colorful dialogue, the screenwriters were awarded the Cup of the Third Albanian Film Festival for the components and the film itself won the Special Prize (1979). Even the film "Autumn Rebuke", where P. Dado is the co-author of the script with the director K. Dhamo, was awarded the second prize at the Fifth Albanian Film Festival. Peci Dado is the author or co-author of more than 12 feature film and television scripts: such as "Uprising in the palace" – 1972 / "Ilegals" – 1976 / "Apassionata" – 1983 / "Who is the murderer" (original title "Secret of peace" Porti") performed in 1989 (posthumously). He also wrote scripts for successful documentary films such as: "In the flow of life" (1965) / "Kenga te bucase" (1966); "They Don't Die" (1966); "Growing Up" (1967); "Home of knowledge, home of freedom" (1975) and others. Peci Dado was a dignified man with artistic and civic courage who bravely defended his views to prevent extreme censorship of his scripts and those of others. Unfortunately, he had a short life, separated from it by a heart attack on May 24, 1981, at the peak of his artistic maturity during the preparations for the filming of the film "Autumn Rebuke", leaving behind several script manuscripts that will be realized after his death. . Albanian cinematography thus lost one of the most capable cinematographers who set an example and paved the way for the preparation of a number of other screenwriters together with Kico Blushin, Natasha Lako, Vath Koreshin, Nexhati Tafen, etc. held the greatest weight of Albanian cinematography.
