Sofika Bashari (1954-2012)
Actress of the National Theatre and Albanian Cinematography.
Sofika Bashari was born on September 7, 1954. She graduated from the Higher Institute of Arts (ILA) as an actress and in the 1980s was appointed actress at the National Theatre of Tirana.
She performed in many premieres and theatrical productions staged by the National Theatre of Tirana during the 1980s, among which we can mention: “Romeo dhe Zhuljeta”, “Prometeu”, “Shkëlqimi i shokut Zylo”, “Shtëpia me dy porta”, and “Natë me hënë”, where she acted alongside her colleagues such as Yllka Mujo, Rajmonda Bulku, Luljeta Sallaku, Sadush Ylli, Shkëlqim Basha, Marjeta Ljarja, Ema Andrea, and others.
In Albanian cinema, she appeared in films such as “Ëndërr për një karrike” (1984), “Fushë e blertë, fushë e kuqe” (1984) (although she was credited in this film, her role cannot be found anywhere).
However, her most recognized role was that of engineer Monda in the film “Shirat e vjeshtës” (1984).
Sofika was a close friend of her colleagues Anil Frashëri, Leka Sefla, Shegushe Bebeti, Mira Minga, Ingrid Mukeli, Benon Lopari, and others.
Unfortunately, her artistic path was cut short when she was diagnosed with a serious illness. Even in such condition, Sofika showed courage and tried to overcome everything with hope.
Sofika Bashari passed away on April 30, 2012, at the age of 57.
Apart from her colleagues who knew her, none of the media or the press remembered to honor this well-known actress who was part of the National Theatre. Nothing.
If you search for her today, you find no information—emptiness! Even though 13 years have passed, no one has written anything, not even a memorial. This is the situation in Albania today: no one is honored, and people are left in the dust of oblivion; even after passing away, no one remembers anything!
