Dhimiter Lala
Documentary film operator
He is the oldest cameraman in Albania today! Born in Pogradec on October 2, 1931. He spent his childhood and education in this city. In 1945, Lala was among the first students to open the “Skanderbeg” Military School in Tirana, a boy with a revolver in his belt.
Continued his studies in this school until 1949, where he later continued his higher studies as an officer from which he graduated. He worked as an officer for a few years until November 1953. But the desire for film brought him to the doors of Kinostudio a year later, 1954. It is a name closely connected with the establishment of two important cultural institutions, Kinostudio “Shqiperia e Re” (1954) and Albanian State Television – TVSH (1971).
He is known among the first Kinostudio operators, among the first to shoot the documentary films of this Institution and at the same time among the first TVSH operators. He started as an assistant and then as an operator of newsreels and documentaries, in over 80 years.
With the rise of TVSH, Lala was transferred as an operator here in this institution. Former partisan of the 4th Assault Brigade where during the war he stood out for his special qualities for which he was decorated with the “Medal of Remembrance”; “Medal of Bravery”; “Medal of Clearance” etc.
His camera was successful until the mid-70s, then everything changes, and life takes a strangely different direction when he is imprisoned in an unbelievable way in Spac.
It was 1976 when Dhimiter Lala was sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment for agitational and propaganda!!!
He was an assistant operator in the first Albanian short film “Her Children”, directed by Hysen Hakani. Among many chronicle and documentary films, “The Well 542” (collaborator with A. Fortuzi and S. Mushe) stands out.
Precisely with this film (1957) directed by Ilo Pando’s, he was decorated with the “Work Order” of the II class”. As for the other documentary “Duel with Flames”, it is decorated with the “Naim Frasheri Order” of the 2nd class.

The veteran of the Albanian operators has filmed outside the Albanian borders as far as Italy, Ireland and many other countries, where the talent of the wide and diverse landscape has been noticed. The realistic, the juxtaposition of dynamic and static plans. The photography of his shoots has dynamics and wealth of images, with interesting perspectives. In v. 2019 is dedicated to a documentary entitled “Camera and soul”
