Ismail Kadare (1936-2024) Poet, great writer, screenwriter. Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Albania. He was born in Gjirokaster on January 28, 1936. He completed his higher studies in the language-literature department at the State University of Tirana. Meanwhile, he finished his postgraduate studies in Moscow, near the "Gorki" Institute. He worked for a while as a journalist, then editor-in-chief of the magazine "Les lettres Albanaise". He is the author of many poems, novels, stories that reverberate inside and outside Albania and have been translated into 40 different countries. Winner of several international awards, cultural personality, social activist, member of the French Academy for Moral and Political Sciences and officer of the French Legion of Honor. In 1995, by decree of the President of the Republic of Albania, he was awarded the high title "Honour of the Nation". He also wrote five screenplays for feature films: Balle per Balle – 1979, based on his well-known novel "The Great Lonely Winter"; Former Emblem – 1979; Radio Station – 1979; The Uninvited – 1986 based on his novel "Broken April". Based on his novels, stories and poems, several feature films, documentaries and television have been shot, such as "The General of the Dead Army", a television version taken from the drama of the National Theater – 1975. "The general of the dead army" the Italian-French version with world actresses Mishel Pikoli and Marcelo Mastroiani. Former Emblem – 1979; Return of the Dead Army – 1989; Enigma – 1991; When November comes – 1964, according to the poem, why do these mountains think, as well as some others.
