Stefan Gajo
Operator of Albanian Radio and Television, director of photography, “Merited Artist”!
He was born in Tirana on September 16, 1942, where he completed secondary school. He finished his higher studies at the two-year Pedagogical Institute for Mathematics and Physics. In 1969, he started working in TVSH, initially working for about 2 years as an operator directly in the studio. From the year 1971, he started filming off-television in different districts of the country, realizing as an operator several teledramas, telestories, various artistic programs, etc. among which he stands out for his figurative side, especially in the teledrama “Zekthi”.
He made the first documentary film as a cameraman on the lyrical singer Tefta Tashko Koco, a film that opened the way to success in the filming of television feature films.
Gajo`s first film was also his first television series “The Third” (1978) as a co-author. Later he made the films “The Kick” (1980) as well as “A telegram, a song” (1982), “The blck bag” (1986).
In the following years, he again deals with filming television shows, which were very successful, not only as an organization and director, but also for a high quality level of the camera. Such were the shows “12 in Hollywood” with 12 series; “Miss Europe `96” etc.
His last film was the documentary on the first Albanian cardinal, Mikel Koliqi “The Cardinal” – 1996, which was awarded the first prize at the International Film Festival that took place in Palermo, for the high level of photography.
Stefan Gajo has also shot several television documentaries, among which “People with a big world”. He often disagreed with the way television worked, the servile chronicles, the mediocre shows, the laziness that enveloped everything. Beyond the seriousness, he sometimes let loose rhymes that were accompanied by his characteristic boisterous laughter.
