Azis Karalliu
Film painter/Cartoonist
He was born in Gjirokaster on September 23, 1936. Headed the “Jordan Misja” art High School in the department of decoration and scenography since 1958. Then he started working at the Kinostudio “Shqiperia e Re” in the film reclamation department. and later in 1961 in the feature film as an executive painter. The film “The Trace” (Gjurma) (1970) is his first film as a creative painter.
Karalliu made the sets of 25 films, of which: “When it dawned one day”; “Stars of long nights”; “Illegals”; “Brother and friend”; “Three people with guns”; “Deputy of women”; “Behind the facade”;
He has also produced many high-quality plaques, some of which have been awarded prizes. “Kosovo Volcano” in 1999, has a meaningful solution, where the symbolism and the inspiring idea of the will for freedom, come freely to the viewer.
As in the plates, he has an abundant creativity in the cartoons, where the wealth of ideas and solutions, the sharp findings and the details with a metaphorical and symbolic load stand out. The cycle “Prapanic Habits” was awarded as the best cycle in the exhibition opened under the auspices of “HOSTENI” magazine in 1975, while “The portrait of the drunkard” won awards at an international exhibition in Krakow, Poland.
As a scenographer for the film “Confrontation”, he was awarded the “Best Set Design” award at the 2nd Albanian Film Festival in 1977.
